The Russian Ministry of Defense released images on Wednesday morning (4) of a military exercise conducted at the Baltic Naval Base, simulating the rescue of a civilian vessel hijacked by terrorists.

The operation was conducted to train troops for potential scenarios involving sabotage or maritime hijacking.

According to the exercise scenario, a civilian ship — represented by a rescue tug of the Baltic Fleet — was seized by a group of armed men who threatened to negotiate with hostages if their demands were not met.

In response to the threat, the Baltic Fleet command deployed anti-sabotage and patrol boats, as well as high-speed craft with special forces on board.

The operation was also supported by naval aviation: helicopters carrying airborne assault teams were used to reinforce tactical actions.

During the simulation, troops trained on various approaches to block the hijacked vessel, evacuate hostages, and provide aid to victims. In the final stage, marine and airborne special forces units boarded the ship simultaneously, surrounded the simulated terrorists, and neutralized them. The crew was successfully rescued.
